Awakening to Oneness
Sri Amma Bhagavan
The founders of the Oneness Movement are Sri AmmaBhagavan who are avatars* for awakening and God realization. They are one single avataric consciousness in two bodies. They represent the Divine feminine and the Divine masculine. Together Amma and Bhagavan power the process of awakening of the individual seeker as Yin and Yang, stillness and movement, Prakruti and Purusha.
They are like the spirit, all pervading yet abiding in the deepest recesses of one's Being. They are the silent Presence powering the phenomenon of Oneness Blessing everywhere. Far removed from the periphery of the various actitvities of the movement they reside at the Oneness temple. Oneness Blessing anywhere in the world draws its power from the consciousness and the intent of Sri Amma Bhagavan. They are the life breath behind the any number of miracles that are experienced by the seekers. They manifest across space and time to people when they seek their help. Their consciousness not being limited to their physical body, Amma Bhagavan's manifestation even predates their birth.
What was hitherto possible for great masters, Sri Amma Bhagavan are making it possible for ordinary men and women. This immense power of the avatars is sourced in their compassion. To have a glimpse into their nature, let us reminisce one of those statements Sri Bhagavan made in a darshan, "A humanity that is already burdened by its struggle for survival cannot be given the additional responsibility of seeking its own awakening. Man cannot make it on his own, it has to be given to him". Sri Amma Bhagavan do not belong to any one people, one nation or one faith. They are for all mankind. Their vision is not a golden age for any one community or country. It is a Global Golden age.
*An Avatar is a being who is born with a destiny to aid humanity into its next phase of evolution.
'To set man free' is the sole passion of Sri Amma Bhagavan. This vision runs as the nerve current through every activity of the Oneness Movement. The origins of this passion are to be traced back to the time when Sri Bhagavan was three years old. In his experience the whole universe was an extension of Himself. His consciousness had always been so. As Sri Bhagavan began to experience people, He became cognizant of the fact that people were not experiencing the world the way He was experiencing it. He saw they felt separate from the rest of the world. This sense of separate existence, he discovered, was the edifice on which stood human suffering. This was the very first awakening that Sri Bhagavan had of the human predicament that shaped His future work. Sri Bhagavan felt that the human consciousness was capable of a much vaster and richer experience of reality than it is experiencing today. To restore man to the magnificence and splendor of his natural state of being became Sri Bhagavan's passion.
The nature of existence is bliss. It is qualified by auspicious qualities like love, compassion, connectedness and silence. Man's consciousness is fettered by concepts, ideas, conditionings and mental constructions. Sri Bhagavan observes, 'When consciousness is purged of all its contamination what remains is life, pure consciousness or God'. Hence Sri Bhagavan defines Awakening or Oneness as 'liberation of life itself'.
The descent of the ‘Golden Ball’ marked the birth of the phenomenon; the phenomenon of ‘Oneness’. The year was 1989 and the day, July 19th. We called it ‘The Golden Ball of Divine Grace.’ Amma and Bhagavan’s vision of a world filled with the divine, a world devoid of boundaries of any kind - national, religious, class-based or racial, had begun to manifest. Jeevashram, a school founded by Amma and Bhagavan provided the ideal setting for the divine miracle.
Soon to follow was the phenomenon of the in-dweller, the Antaryamin. In the heart of a young boy, Sri Krishnaji, the indweller would appear and talk to him. This young boy would then lay his hands on his friends and fellow students and a similar thing would happen to them. Walking and talking with the divine became contagious. This was the beginning of the phenomenon, which later came to be known as Deeksha. Soon, every student was engaged in a conversation with Amma and Bhagavan in their hearts.
During this period, people called this campus God’s Earth. Astral journeys, past life experiences, mystical visions, were the everyday talk of most of the children. The campus was filled with divine consciousness. Saints walked the campus for a few solid weeks. The campus then became the movement’s first spiritual center and was named ‘Sathyaloka’ the abode of truth.
The first retreat was conducted on April 18th, 1990. Forty seekers received the much awaited benediction of experience. The movement began to progress. People from all walks of life, young and old, men, women and children participated in these courses, expecting a boon, a miracle, a change of heart to take place, and a few to rediscover their lost communion with God.
Sri Bhagavan's Message March 7, 2007
The root cause of all suffering is the sense of separate existence. We have a divisive consciousness that perceives things as the me and the not me, the mine and the not mine, as my people and yours, as my nation and yours. Having divided all things, we feel threatened by the other. Fear in turn breeds war, conflict and further forms of violence.
Are we then beyond redemption? Are we to remain a bunch of pessimistic philosophers or apathetic on-lookers bemoaning our collective doom? Not necessarily.
We as a race are on the brink of a colossal transition from one of separation to that of Oneness. We would awaken from darkness to light, from untruth to truth. We would realize the oneness of all living things.
Though each of us may live different lives, located away from each other in space and time, we are biologically, emotionally and spiritually one.
There is only one body. What happens to the animals in the seas, happens to us - men and women. What happens to the forests happens to us in our bodies, since our bodies like the trees are made of the same earth. Are not our bodies moving clay forms endowed with intelligence?
A conscientious effort at healing the earth would manifest as the ultimate healing of our own bodies.
There is only one mind. This is the mind that has flowed through our fore fathers, us and would in turn continue to live through our children and their progeny. The collective torment or fear suffered by our own brethren in one part of the world would manifest as sleeping or waking nightmares to someone else-where in the world. Our pleasures and pains are interminably interlinked. We are one and cannot continue to live any further in an illusion of separation.
There is only one consciousness. We live in a holographic universe. Every individual, awakening into oneness is automatically affecting a few thousand people pushing them towards the only sane alternative way of experiencing reality.
Our experience of reality having changed we would go on to discovering newer ways of living and loving. We would create a better planet for the present and the future. This is our shared destiny.
